Guilford County’s Continuum of Care brings together 40 or more organizations and individuals to address the full range of challenges faced by persons experiencing homelessness.
The Continuum of Care includes outreach to persons on the street, assistance to prevent people losing housing, shelters, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing for people with disabilities. Housing First moves people directly from the streets to permanent housing–with the services needed to sustain this. Guilford County was one of three pilot projects in North Carolina to do Housing First with chronically homeless people with serious mental illness. Read the preliminary report on the success of the Housing Support Teams HSTbrief_3.22.09.
GHC and our community partners are implementing the programs that have worked well in other places. To see national information about needs, policies, and programs read 4thNationalHomelessAssessmentReport and WithoutHousing.
